Bhubaneswar: Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Member Aseem Amitabh Das visited the Distressed Ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry into an incident that a Government-appointed attendant beat up a patient severely yesterday.

According to reports, a woman attendant, who is paid by Government to serve distress patients at the premier hospital, beat an elderly person severely. The video showed that the attendant was beating a patient with a stick.

During his visit, Das talked to the patient and his family members. When asked, the concerned woman refuted the charge.

“Nobody has right to beat any person, even a mad person. Everybody has right to lead a dignified life. Investigation is underway. Action would certainly be taken against guilty,” Das told reporters.

He also said that he has advised the Superintendent and other authorities of the SCB Medical College and Hospital to ensure safety to all patients.

Notably, SCB authorities have not taken any action against the paid attendant.
