Astarang murder case: Three sentenced to life

Puri: The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Puri today awarded life imprisonment to three persons in connection with brutal murder of a couple and their two daughters in Astaranga in 2015.

On Wednesday, the court convicted three persons Himadri Sekhar Dash alias Rahim Khan, his wife Aisha Begum of West Medinapur in West Bengal and Fakir Mallik of Bolagarh in Khurda, under Sections 302/394/397/120-B of the IPC and posted the matter for pronouncing quantum of punishment on Friday.

The murders occurred on September 22, 2015. Dinabandhu Mallik, his wife Nirmala and their two children were found brutally killed at Dinadiha village in Astaranga. The CID of State Crime Branch took charge of the investigation from local police on the very the next day on September 23.

Investigation revealed that Fakir Mallik, the brother-in-law of Nirmala, had developed a good relationship with the accused Himadri during their journey in atrain to Goa. Later, Himadri visited Fakir frequently who in turn introduced the former with Dinabandhu and his family members.

On September 21, Himadri and his wife Aisha visited the house of Dinabandhu and brutally murdered of the latter, his wife and two minor daughters and had also disposed some of the valuables in a neighbouring State.
