Balasore: The death of two female elephant, suspected to be caused by anthrax, in Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in the district has spread panic among local residents.

However, before collecting blood samples to ascertain the death of the elephants, the forest department officials burnt them, raising many eyebrows.

Later, the Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) and Kuldiha Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) rushed to the spot and sent the carcasses for post-mortem.

According to protocol of the animal resources department, there is no autopsy of animals that die from anthrax to prevent the spread of the bacteria.
