Dhenkanal: Amid tears, anger and anti-Pakistan slogans, the last rites of jawan Ajit Kumar Sahu, who succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday after being hit by an IED blast in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, were held in his native villages Badasuanla village under Kamakshya Nagar block of Dhenkanal district today.
Hundreds of people, including women, paid their last respects to Ajit Prasanna at his village. The last rites were conducted with full State honours.
On its arrival at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here this morning, the body was received by Governor Ganeshi Lal. Then, it was taken in a special vehicle to the Dhenkanal Mini Stadium where general people paid floral tributes to him. The body will be taken to his Badasuanlo village.
Meanwhile, expressing grief over the death of Sahoo, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for the next of the kin of the deceased.
At least nine Army personnel including Sahoo and two civilians were injured when militants triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) fitted in a vehicle near an Army patrol in Pulwama district on Monday.
