New Delhi, Jan 28: The number of child pornography has been alarmingly on the rise. At least 25,000 video or still photographs of child pornography have  been uploaded in social sites in India during the last 5 months. This startling fact has been shared by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) of United States of America with India's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Delhi tops the list, followed by states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP and West Bengal. Though the state-wise data has not been made public, a senior police officer said that Maharashtra had recorded around 1700 such cases within last five months, which has been informed to the cyber police. A Home ministry official said cases had been registered earlier. Several arrests had been made in these cases. The ministry of Home Affairs had signed an MoU with the NCMEC last year for sharing of data following which the latter has sent some data on the child nudity in India. The Home ministry has stated that it has shared these data with the state police. Now, the onus lies with the state police to take action in these cases. However, such crime is committed in cities. Highest number of child pornography cases in Maharashtra has been detected in Mumbai and Pune cities. More than 500 such cases have come to fore in Mumbai alone within last 5 months.
