Cuttack, 9/12: Senior IPS officer belonging to 1986 batch Abhay today assumed the charge of permanent Director General of Police (DGP). He took over charge from the Interim DGP Satyajit Mohanty. The new DGP was given guard of honour at the state police headquarter in the city. On November 20, the state government shifted the DGP in charge Bijoy Kumar Sharma and posted him as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Home department. Abhay was appointed as the DGP. However, he could not take charge of DGP immediately as he was heading the Sardar Ballavbhaii Patel National Police Academy at Hyderabad at that time. Hence Satyajit Mohanty was appointed as the Interim DGP. Meanwhile, Abhay has been relieved from the National Police Academy and today took over as DGP of Odisha. Abhay had served in various capacities in the state and outside. Recipient of President's Police Medal in 2010, the Odisha cadre IPS officer was earlier heading the Narcotic Control Bureau. He had also gone on international deputation to Commonwealth Fund for Technical Assistance and worked under Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for seven years.
