9 killed, 41 injured as bus falls off bridge in Odisha

Berhmapur, Jan 29: At least nine people were killed and 41 others injured after a passenger bus fell into Taptapani gorge in Ganjam district in the wee hours of Wednesday.   As per reports, the accident took place at around 3 am near Patapur village when the ill-fated bus was heading towards Berhampur from Tiriki in Rayagada district with about 50 passengers onboard. The driver of the bus lost control over the wheels due to dense fog and the vehicle fell down into the gorge around 30 feet deep. Many passengers got trapped in the bus as it turned turtle. Locals, police and fire personnel reached the spot immediately and conducted a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to Berhampur and Digapahandi Hospital. Ganjam district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange and Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra reached the spot being informed about the incident and monitoring the situation.
