8 districts alerted against intense rainfall, lightning

Bhubaneswar: Warnings of intense rainfall and lightning were issued to eight district and warnings and moderate rainfall and lightning were issued to equal number districts in the State by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) this morning.

People of the 16 districts have been asked to remain at safer places during the rainfall expected to occur between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm.

“Moderate thundershower and lightning with one or two spells of intense rainfall likely to continue at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Subarnapur, Boudh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj and moderate thundershower and moderate rainfall likely to continue at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Khurda and Koraput between 1030 hrs and 1330 hours,” read a release issued by the Meteorological Regional Centre.  

Due to a low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal, rain is likely to occur in many parts of Odisha during the next 48 hours.
