Bhubaneswar: The central Government sanctioned 50 electric buses for Bhubaneswar, under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme of the Department of Heavy Industries under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
The fleet of 50 electric buses has been allotted to Bhubaneswar as part of Centre’s initiatives to popularise environment-friendly electric vehicles.
In the Union Budget 2019-20, the Narendra Modi Government proposed additional income tax deduction of Rs 1.5 lakh on the interest paid on loans taken to purchase electric vehicles. Besides, certain parts of electric vehicles have been exempted from customs duty.
Earlier on July 20, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Panda informed in the State Assembly that the State Government was all set to introduce e-buses within the radius of 100 kms radius in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri.
