Bhubaneswar: The State Government has decided to set up 45 fast-track courts for hearing cases pertaining to crimes against children and rapes.
“In order to ensure timely conviction and stern punishment to sexual offenders by expediting the trial, the State Government has decided to set up 45 fast-track courts. Out of the total 45, at least 24 fast track courts will specifically deal with POCSO cases,” informed Law Minister Pratap Jena here on Tuesday.
Jena said the 24 fast track courts which will exclusively deal with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases will be thrown open soon.
The Minister said expeditious justice would be ensured once the 14 vacant posts of judges at the Orissa High Court are filled up. The HC has a sanctioned strength of 27, judges including the Chief Justice.
