Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested as many as 30 Dalals from various Government hospitals in nine districts on the charges of cheating patients and disrupting health care services.

While three Dalals comprising a medicine representative and two ambulance drivers were arrested from the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, five were held from Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital at Burla and three each from the Bhadrak DHH and the Pandit Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada. Dalals were arrested from Bangir, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur DHHs.

Police are now conducting raids on the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur.

Dalals, most of them engaged by doctors, influence patients and their attendants to go for treatment in private clinics and, in cases, they take money from patients in facilitating them to get blood and free medicines.

Police have swung into the action after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik advised the Odisha Police to make Government hospitals Dalal-free soon.

“On availing direction from the Chief Minister, we have started conducting raids at hospitals. The Dalals are not only cheating patients, but also disrupting health services,” said DGP BK Sharma.
