3-day Pongal celebrations begin in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: The three-day Pongal celebrations begin this morning with colourful rangolis in the houses of the Telgu community across the state. The harvest festival of south India is celebrated with pomp and gaiety in south Odisha as there is a sizeable Telgu population in the region. Bhogi is the first day of Pongal that is being celebrated today in the honour of Indra, the god of rain. Sankranti is the second day of the festival. On this day, Pongali is prepared at every home with the newly harvested grains. The last day of the festival is called Kanuma and mostly observed by farmers. They worship the cattle on this occasion.
