3.9 cases of minor rape registered every day in 2018 on an average

Bhubaneswar, 25/11: While the growing cases of minor rape case has been a cause of concern across the country, the state government today admitted that daily on an average 3.9 minor rape cases had been registered in 2018. However, the daily average has come down to 3.3 during the first six months of the current year. This figure was given by none other than Minister of State for Home Divyashankar Mishra in a reply to ruling BIju Janata Dal MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik’s written question. Quoting the white paper on law and order published by Home department and circulated in the state assembly, the minister said that as many as 2502 rape cases had been registered in 2018. The daily average of such cases was 6.9. Out of the total 2502 rape cases, 1430 cases related to minor girls, the daily average of which was 3.9. On the other hand, 604 minor rape cases were registered during the period between January 1 and June 30 this year, said Mishra. This constitutes a daily average of 3.3 percent.
