22 elephants go rampage in Karanjia orphanage

Bhubaneswar: As many as 22 elephants went on a rampage in the Bishwa Bandhu Sebaka Sangha Anatha Ashram (an orphanage) under Karanjia area in Mayurbhanj district during wee hours of Tuesday.

The jumbos ate up ate up 12 gunny bags of rice and two gunny bags of mudhi (fried rice) kept in the kitchen room of the orphanage.

According to reports, the elephants broke two boundary walls and a gate of the Ashram and ate up the rice and fried rice stocked in the kitchen room. Besides, the jumbos damaged other assets in the campus.

Earlier, the pachyderms had damanged houses and shops located near the Ashram. Inmates and people living near the Ashram are in a state of fear now, said reports.
