2020-21 Budget passed, Assembly adjourned sine die

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: The Annual Budget for 2020-21 was approved by the state Assembly in a special one hour Session today. The Budget Sesion was adjourned sine die after passage of the Budget. The concluding part of the Budget Session was held today at the Convention Hall of Odisha Lok Seva Bhawan instead of Assembly Building due to COVID-19. The Appropriation Bill amounting to around Rs 1.5 lakh crore was prsented by Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari for the approval of the Assembly and it was passed unanimously, said BJD MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy. The Special Session for one hour was held amidst tight security and the ministers and MLAs were in mask on their mouth. Only one-third MLAs had attended the Session on the direction of the Speaker. Assembly Speaker Dr Surjya Narayan Patro on March 13 had suspended the Assembly proceeding till March 29 following coronavirus outbreak. The Speaker had said that budgetary demands for grants of different departments scheduled to be discussed between March 16 and 27 will be passed through guillotine on March 30. The ruling from the chair had come following passage of a proposal put by Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick by voice vote.
