1800 bottles of illegal cough syrup worth Rs 3 lakh seized in Balangir, one held

Balangir, Sep 20: Balangir Town police today seized 1800 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 3 lakh and arrested one person in this connection. The accused has been identified as Jagabandhu Meher. Police have seized a Maruti Dzire two four wheelers from the accused. According to reports, the accused person has been selling cough syrup to youths of the locality, who allegedly use this as an intoxicant. Police said that more than a dozen of cases are pending against the accused in various police stations in Balangir district. Police have registered a case in this connection. “The accused will be forwarded to the court. The drive against smuggling of cough syrup will be intensified as in the district,” added the police official.
