Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological centre here issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for 11 districts till 9.30 pm.
“Moderate to severe thunderstorm/lightning with light rainfall and gusty wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul and Dhenkanal between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm,” warned the IMD bulletin.
People have been asked to take shelter in safe places during the period.
Meanwhile, there was no relief from the heatwave conditions as the sweltering heat intensified in most parts of the State on Monday with 11 cities recording above 40 degree Celsius, Titliagarh, known as the heat island, becoming the hottest place at 45 degree Celsius in the State.
Tilgaragh recorded the highest day temperature of 45.5 degree Celsius on Monday. Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi directed district Collectors to remain alert and make provisions for drinking water facility to beat the heat.
